With Spring officially here, it’s the perfect time to get all of those yearly cleaning tasks done in time for the summer holiday season. To help get your house in order for a joyous season, here are 5 tips for a successful spring clean.

1 – Make A Schedule

Choose a weekend, week or entire month of how you are going to get all of these spring cleaning tasks completed. If you are following a regular weekly cleaning routine and/or monthly cleaning routine then spring cleaning should be a breeze!

Making a schedule is one of the biggest spring cleaning tips!

Keep in mind, be realistic with your plan. Just like with any project make sure you can allocate time to complete the task and can organise the help you may need, which we will discuss later. Set yourself up for success right from the start will increase the likely hood of your getting that relaxing de-cluttered feeling at the end.

2 – Get Your Supplies Ready

Take an inventory of the cleaning supplies you have before you start cleaning. Make sure you have every single thing you need for a successful spring cleaning. The last thing you want to do is run to the shop for something you may have needed. If you plan on cleaning your carpets check to make sure you have the cleaner you need.

Spring is a great time to change your smoke alarm batteries too! Make sure you have those on hand and they are the right ones you need.

When we moved into our new home last year I made sure I stocked up on 9-volt batteries as I normally would. Also, if your smoke detector beeps after you place a fresh battery in, it may just be an indicator that the smoke alarm is still functional. So it is a good idea to read the manual.

3 – Declutter Before You Start Cleaning

When it comes to spring cleaning tips treat decluttering differently.

Spring cleaning is all about deep cleaning. Cleaning those areas of your home that need a little extra attention. Before you start tackling your spring cleaning tasks, make sure your space is decluttered and organized. The weekend before I start to work on my spring cleaning I go room by room.

Weed out winter clothing that you no longer need or the kids outgrew. I do a quick overview of the closets and drawers in our home.

That way when spring cleaning time comes around I can get right down to business. If you have a huge organization project to tackle try to get it done beforehand.

4 – One Task At A Time

As mentioned earlier, set your self up for success when it comes to spring cleaning. With your schedule in place, there is no need to feel overwhelmed you have a plan. If the thought of spring cleaning over a weekend makes you nervous, break it down into smaller tasks over a week or month.

5 – Get The Whole Family Involved

My last spring cleaning tips include your whole family. This is not a one-person job. If your kids are older they can help you when it comes to cleaning tasks around the home but if you have little ones they can help too! Toddlers will love to help you collect bath mats to wash, or collect those extra blankets that need to be washed. If you have infants try to get your spring cleaning tasks done during nap time. Try to get everyone involved, kids should understand that you all live in the house and need to pitch in and help.
