New research has revealed that decluttering really is one of the top five best things you can do for your physical and mental health. A study of more than 2,000 people revealed that we are more likely to be happier, healthier and better able to cope with stress if we make space in our lives to get rid of unwanted items. Here are five tips to declutter your bedroom.
1. Declutter your bedroom
Make space to start creating the space you want: organise and clear your bedroom of clothes and belongings that don’t make you happy and don’t belong in your bedroom. Before bed, add or remove items to your wardrobe. Instead of wearing dresses that don’t fit, choose loose-fitting tops and wear loose clothes in your bedroom. Start buying less and throwing away your old items. Set aside an hour a week to do your bedroom room clear up, too.
2. Put your bed to rest
Coffee, tea, and other caffeine-laden drinks can interrupt sleep and increase stress levels. Make sure you don’t drink tea or coffee before you go to bed to make sure you get an extra hour of sleep. Make sure you aren’t drinking tea or coffee in your bedroom and put down your smartphone or computer after dinner for half an hour to prepare for sleep. Give yourself an extra tip: stop using your bedroom as a clothes storage area and start using your room as a cool and comfortable place.
3. Focus on how you want to feel
How do you want to feel in your bedroom? Decide what you want your bedroom to be like and work out how you can declutter and tidy up the space to make it happen. Take time to declutter the bedroom in your own way. Follow your own ideas and do what you can to feel happy, comfortable and organised in your bedroom.
4. Keep your bed tidy
You can make your bedroom tidy by removing items from your bedside and changing the bedsheets regularly. Make sure you start your bedroom clean-up by sorting through your bedside drawer and removing any unwanted items you no longer use. Keep the drawer emptied and tidy and then leave your bed tidy.
5. Treat making your bed as a gift
Change your view of making your bed, from a chore to a gift to yourself, so you can look forward to climbing into crisp sheets after a long day. Few things match the pure pleasure of climbing into a smoothly made bed with a lightly plumped pillow after a hectic day.
Wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated to reclaim you amazing every day!
